'Star Wars' has had its music written by John Williams, released initially in 1977.
It was recorded in March 1977, as a classical genre soundtrack, for the 20th Century Records label. Later, it was released in 1997 and 2004 under other labels, such as RSO Records, Sony Classical and RCA Victor. The producers of the music scores were George Lucas and Nick Redman.
Star Wars Theme
The musical score for the first 'Star Wars' movie took 8 sessions in the English studios from Denham, called Anvil Studios.
The original lineup performing the soundtrack consisted of the London Symphony Orchestra, John Williams taking the place of the conductor. The orchestration was taken care of by Herbert W. Spencer, a man that Williams worked with many times. Spencer also orchestrated 'Return of the Jedi' and 'The Empire Strikes Back', other Star Wars movies to follow.

The musical scores were engineered by Eric Tomlinson, Kenneth Wannberg being the editor. Lionel Newman, chief of the 20th Century Fox musical department, was the supervisor for the entire recording process. After the movie’s premiere on May 25, 1977, a disco remix for the main theme became a great hit in America. In 2005, the American Film Institute named the soundtrack for 'Star Wars' the best score ever for a United States movie. The Library of Congress introduced the music score in the National Recording Registry.
The initial release of the scores was titled 'Star Wars – Original Soundtrack' and was released as a double LP. This first release had four sides. The first side included four tracks, 'Main Title' with a length of 5 minutes and 20 seconds, 'Imperial Attack' with 6 minutes and 10 seconds, 'Princess Leia’s Theme', 4 minutes and 18 seconds and 'The Desert and the Robot Auction', with 2 minutes and 51 seconds.
Side two and three contained 5 more tracks, while side four ended with 'The Last Battle', lasting 12 minutes and 5 seconds, and 'The Throne Room and End Title', lasting 5 minutes and 28 seconds.
The first release on CD for 'Star Wars – Original Soundtrack' contained two discs, the first containing 9 tracks, and the second only seven tracks. The year 1993 brought over an anthology release for the Star Wars movies, called 'Star Wars Trilogy – The Original Soundtrack Anthology: Star Wars'.
This release was produced by Nick Redman and released by the label Arista Records. The two discs contained 23 tracks in total.
The Star Wars musical score won the 1977 Academy Award for Best Original Score and the Golden Globe for Best Original Score, as well as a BAFTA award and three Grammy’s in 1978. Grab the awesome free Star Wars Movie Theme piano sheet music and feel its rhythm on your beloved instrument.
