  • Ive tried looking at the clarinet forum but it was confusing me a little. I see what is labeled as a pre r13 but with a serial number in the 400's. I am looking to buy a decent clarinet to start, but i thought pre r 13's started in the 40xxx serial range.
  • There are many different types of clarinets built by Selmer (Paris), each with their own special features. But there were also changes during the production. Here's the serial number list of these clarinets, with the addition of a list of the various bores and barrel sizes. MRO saxophones will complement these with actual measurements.
  • This instrument was recently taken in part exchange by Clarinets Direct. The instrument was most likely made as a professional level model due to the, for the time, relatively advanced double over blowing mechanism for the 2nd register: Like a Selmer, Paris, Bass, the upper vent is actuated for the note E and above in the clarion register.

The Noblet 27 is a semi-professional vintage clarinet made in France in the mid 1970's. Noted with excellent intonation and good overall performance, these clarinets are ideal for the advanced student.

This clarinet has been completely overhauled over in our shop. Our professional overhaul service includes:
- Master Series Pads in Upper Joint (best professional pad)
- Double Skin Pads in Lower Joint
- Complete Wood Refurbishment (intense oiling & bore polishing)
- All Key Mechanisms Refit
- All New Corks
- 1 Year Warranty

List

We have specifically replaced all of the pads in the upper joint with our favorite professional pad on the planet, the Master Series Synthetic pads by Valentino. These pads give a tonal performance and reliability of a cork pad but are easier to work with a seal better than any pad we have ever used. They are also extremely long life pads with an estimated life expectancy of 15 years. For more information on these pads, please click here.

We are also hand selecting a custom Backun professional barrel to include with the clarinet. After playing through all of our in stock Backun barrels (Protege, Ringless, Fatboy & Moba), we found that the absolute best performing barrel on this model was a Ringless Cocobolo 65mm which we are including with the instrument (shown in pictures above).

Clarinet

The clarinet will also include a refurbished Leblanc Larry Combs LC3 professional mouthpiece with a Charles Bay ligature.

What does our Professional Setup do for you the customer?

No instrument comes into our shop from the manufacturers in perfect adjustment. In fact, the longer they sit in a storage facility or on a music stores shelves, the more out of adjustment they typically are. This is due to the felt in the pads losing the compression that forms the 'pad seat' causing leaks of air through the pads.

Our Professional Setup prior to shipping is done to ensure that you receive an instrument that plays perfectly right out of the box. This way you get the superior performance of the instrument without having to have it 'setup' by some other technician.

No other shop can give you this price AND this setup.

However, the authenticity of at the least one of these gadgets has been questioned. Additional designs were developed by many other makers, adding Dumas of Sommières who called his tool a 'Basse guerrière' in 1807; Nicola Papalini, c. 1810 an odd design, in the variety of a serpentine series of curves, carved out of wood; George Catlin of Hartford, Connecticut 'clarion' c. 1810; Sautermeister of Lyons 'Basse orgue' in 1812; Gottlieb Streitwolf in 1828; and Catterino Catterini 'glicibarifono' in the 1830s. These last four, and a number of others of an identical period, had bassoon like folded shapes, and most had prolonged ranges. A immediately bodied instrument with out extended range was produced in 1832 by Isaac Dacosta and Auguste Buffet. Music is on occasion encountered written for the bass clarinet in A, e. g. in Wagner operas, and Mahler or Rachmaninov symphonies; this music also tends to be written in bass clef although not forever e. g.
